Specialized counselling for marriages, couples, families and adolescents to positively heal and energize your relationships.
Family counselling is not about giving advice. It is about helping and supporting a person or family to find an understanding and answers that work for them. This counselling provides a friendly, supportive and positive approach to personal development. Counselling is a process that enables a person to sort out issues and reach decisions affecting their life. Often counselling is sought out at times of change or crisis, it need not be so, however, as counselling can also help us at any time of our life.
Counselling involves talking with a person in a way that helps that person solve a problem or helps to create conditions that will cause the person to understand and/or improve his behavior, character, values or life circumstances. Counselling is the skilled and principled use of relationship to facilitate self- knowledge, emotional acceptance and growth and the optimal development of personal resources.
The overall aim is to provide an opportunity to work towards living more satisfyingly and resourcefully. Family counselling will vary according to need but may be concerned with developmental issues, addressing and resolving specific problems, making decisions, coping with crisis, developing personal insights and knowledge, working through feelings of inner conflict or improving relationships with others.
Life Services offers counselling support to family members and couples who are facing addiction related concerns. Addiction impacts the entire family system creating a climate of chaos, fear, and dishonesty. Everyone tries to adapt and cope the best they can; yet, very few people really feel they have a handle on the situation or on their emotions and reactions. Addiction takes hold of the family system and changes the dynamics so dramatically people often feel baffled about how things got so out of control.
Family members of addicted loved ones often believe that if their loved one was “fixed” then everything would return to normal. Unfortunately, because addiction has such a devastating impact on the entire family system it is extremely beneficial for the addict as well as each individual member of the family to engage in their own recovery process. Everyone has been deeply hurt and betrayed, everyone has experienced an unrelenting worry and desperation that may result in reactions and behaviors they are ashamed of. Each person in the system possesses the power to change ONLY themselves.
Addiction is a life long illness, which is why recovery is a lifetime process. Please allow us at Life Services to support you and your loved ones in your journey of recovery. Here at Life Services we believe in the restoration of hope, freedom, and choice; we believe in the restoration of dignity and self respect.
